Don’t Starve Your Soul; Feed your Appetite

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful

- Josh 1:8

At New Life Church we believe it’s important to read God’s word every day! A life lived in daily devotion is one modeled after the life of Christ. By reading the bible, listening to the voice of God, and meditating on the revelation that comes only by the Holy Spirit we all draw closer to our heavenly father.

Life Journaling is an excellent way to both record and process what God is saying to you. Keeping a devotional or Life journal also means being able to look back at the encouraging and challenging things God has said. For many, life journaling is a way of holding onto God’s truth.

Whether you journal alone or with friends and family, we encourage you to spend time every day with Jesus.

What is Life Journaling?

A life lived in daily devotion is one modeled after the life of Christ. By reading the bible, listening to the voice of God, and meditating on the revelation that comes only by the Holy Spirit we all draw closer to our heavenly father.

Journaling is an excellent way to both record and process what God is saying. Keeping a devotional or “Life” journal also means being able to look back at the encouraging and challenging things God has said. Life Journals help us focus in on the important lessons learned while spending time with Jesus.

How do I write a Life Journal devotion?

S Scripture
Open your Bible to the reading found under today’s date of your Bible bookmark. Take time reading and allow God to speak to you. When you are done, look for a verse that particularly spoke to you that day, and write it in your journal.

O Observation
What do you think God is saying to you in this scripture? Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and reveal Jesus to you. Paraphrase and write this scripture down in your own words, in your journal.

A Application
Personalize what you have read, by asking yourself how it applies to your life right now. Perhaps it is instruction, encouragement, revelation of a new promise, or corrections for a particular area of your life. Write how this scripture can apply to you today.

P Prayer
This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this scripture, or it may be a greater insight on what He may be revealing to you. Remember, prayer is a two way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say! Now, write it out.

S Scripture
“What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the rooftops.” (Matthew 10:27)

O Observation
If I am not hearing Him in the darkness what will I speak in the light? If I am not hearing God whisper in my ear, how will I be able to teach other what I know about God?

A Application
This scripture reminds me how important it is to not only talk to God in prayer but it is equally important that I take time to listen to him, too!

P Prayer
Dear Jesus, help me to hear your Word today. I want to be quiet so that I can hear your marching orders for my day, for my week, for my life. Speak to me Lord. Your servant is listening
